Jobs

  • 3 phase wiring - in progress
  • Setup Covid station - Entry log, QR code & sanitiser
  • Make shelving for stock metal - big right angle brackets that will be screwed to the wall.

Progress

21/10/2020 - Ready to start painting. Paint has arrived and Alan has purchased some PVA to seal the floor prior to painting.
23/10/2020 - Most of the floor cleared and primed.- Alan.
24/10/2020 - More of floor cleared and has first coat and wall been prepped and has first coat. Also looked at shelving units and it looks like partition can be made up of the units we have. - Alan Barny and Toby.
25/10/2020 - Second coat on - Toby.
29/10/2020 - Created partition with shelving, cleared out last corner ready for painting - Alan Nicholas and three little helpers.
30/10/2020 - Finished painting floor, and walls - might need another coat - Alan

03/11/2020 - Move the machinery back into place, discuss electrics, Matt to install 3 phase switches - Alan, Toby, Barny and Julien
15/11/2020 - Started wiring up 3 phase switches and sockets under guidance from Matt. Main feed is split between the two switches and then each switch splits into a feed for a socket and machine. - Toby
23/11/2020 - Willy has donated some electrical conduit and other electrical bits - Alan
30/11/2020 - Hard wired lathe and drill into 3 phase power and added switches and sockets 01/12/2020 - Drill switch is faulty and making the breaker trip. New switch needs to be ordered.

Aims

  • Make use of the new space
  • Make workshop easier to use

Partition off other tenants

This provides two purposes, to protect other tenants a bit from dust and sparks and to better define HS areas It does have to be some what moveable to allow large items (Cars) to maneuver, although this is likely to be a fairly infrequent event.

Layout of equipment

It would be good to define space for main usage

  • Welding (tig & mig)
  • Casting
  • Cutting & Grinding
  • Lathe
  • Metal storage, wall mounted rack
  • Tool storage

Do we need two big drills?

No. Second drill has never been connected. Third drill will never be repaired.

Bigger question is how we can make that heavy steel table more useful? Mounting points for ring roller and metal brake Way to attach a vice for the drill.

Move the milling machine from Lion House

and any useful tooling - done

How many workbenches do we need

This will be clearer when we do a layout but suspect we can get rid of one

Some sort of covering/protection for lathe (and milling machine)

Very much needed

First aid station

Very much needed

PPE & HSE storage

Somewhere to store PPE like Masks, Ear defenders, Safety glasses etc

Needed - some in multiples

  • Fire extinguisher (We have bought a foam extinguisher £15 came from toys'r' us)
  • Steel bucket full of sand would be great.

What kind of minimum induction require for use of space

I think we need a basic workshop safety induction which would cover:-
Covid awareness including signing in
General use PPE to include eye, hand and hearing protection
Access and locking up
Parking
Roller shutter
Keeping place clean and tidy

This would also cover general tools:

  • grinders
  • TCT chopsaw
  • air tools

Further induction would be required for more dangerous/complicated equipment

  • Lathe
  • Casting
  • Welding - MIG, TIG and stick
  • Milling machine

Any tools we need/want
