Meshroom

Photogrammetry software (3d models from images). Windows PC and requires an nvidia GPU. Free. Free to use, but a bit "either works or it doesn't". It's a thin user-interface-wrapper for Alice Vision, and the documentation for it is a bit weak. But it often works very well once you get the hang of it.

Onshape

Online Parametric design 3d CAD software. This means you can edit your model from any computer on the web. It's powerful software and great for making 3d things on the lasercutter as it can output DXFs and has tools to easily create laser tabs and lay out the file! Onshape is free as long as you agree that your work is open to anybody to copy and modify.

Blender 3D

Blender is a free and open-source 3d animation software which ... does a lot else besides. It's good for taking 3d models and cleaning them up, or creating them. Great for 3d printing. It's focus is on flair, so it's not so great at the engeneering side as onshape or other parametric design is, but the benefit is it's far more 'free and easy' - you can just chuck stuff around (with holes in it!)
