Proposer

Ben (plexer)

Date proposed

02/09/2022

Date for Decision

1-3 months

Cost

Approx £5000

What is being asked for

50w Fibre marking laser machine Can be used to mark on a variety of materials including metals and plastics Can cut thin metal sheet <1mm

Possible machine that could be purchased without rotary £4650

PC to run lightburn on £125.96

Monitor 24" £75

Lightburn for Galvos £131

Keyboard & mouse £20

Extraction unit? could use the small outlet on the main one for the CO2 laser

Total: £5001.96

Why/how this will be good to have

Whilst the current 600x400mm CO2 laser is useful for processing plastics and woods it cannot effectively mark or cut metals

A fibre laser will allow thin sheet brass, stainless steel etc... to be cut and would be potentially useful to the model makers i.e Tim and also SMD electronics people as solder paste masks could potentially be cut.

The marking capabilities for metals and plastics allow for more techniques to be used by other members

Who is supporting the project
