Aims
- Make use of the new space
- Make workshop easier to use
Meeting 1pm Saturday 3rd October 2020 - Toby, Alan, Barney, James
Partition off other tenants
This provides two purposes, to protect other tenants a bit from dust and sparks and to better define HS areas It does have to be some what moveable to allow large items (Cars) to maneuver, although this is likely to be a fairly infrequent event.
Look at floor covering
Is it worth painting? Possibly as the floor isn't in bad condition.
Layout of equipment
It would be good to define space for main usage
- Welding (tig & mig)
- Casting
- Cutting & Grinding
- Lathe
- Metal storage, wall mounted rack
- Tool storage
Do we need two big drills?
No. Second drill has never been connected. Third drill will never be repaired.
Bigger question is how we can make that heavy steel table more useful? Mounting points for ring roller and metal brake Way to attach a vice for the drill.
Move the milling machine from Lion House
and any useful tooling
How many workbenches do we need
This will be clearer when we do a layout but suspect we can get rid of one
Some sort of covering/protection for lathe (and milling machine)
Very much needed
First aid station and covid sign in
Very much needed
PPE & HSE storage
Somewhere to store PPE like Masks, Ear defenders, Safety glasses etc
Needed - some in multiples
- Over ear defenders https://www.toolstation.com/ear-defenders/p56509
- Eye protection
- Gloves
- Welding mask (only one is currently working)
- Fire extinguisher (We have bought a foam extinguisher £15 came from toys'r' us)
- Steel bucket full of sand would be great.
What kind of minimum induction require for use of space
I think we need a basic workshop safety induction which would cover:-
Covid awareness including signing in
General use PPE to include eye, hand and hearing protection
Access and locking up
Parking
Roller shutter
Keeping place clean and tidy
This would also cover general tools:
- grinders
- TCT chopsaw
- air tools
Further induction would be required for more dangerous/complicated equipment
- Lathe
- Casting
- Welding - MIG, TIG and stick
- Milling machine
Any tools we need
- Lathe measurement tools, dial indicator with base, vernier calipers
- Lathe specific spanners etc.
- Storage for tooling
- Drill bits
- Drill vice (magnetic)
- Anvil
- Screwdriver set https://www.toolstation.com/draper-soft-grip-screwdriver-set/p40303
