Proposal by Dan R and the 3D printer maintainance team

Proposed 25/11/2020

Replacement of the Wanhao D7 with a Phrozen Mini 4K and replacement of the small nail bar with a proper wash and cure system

Initial Cost: £500 approx inc shipping https://www.3djake.uk/phrozen/sonic-mini-4k https://www.3djake.uk/anycubic-3d-printer-and-accessories/wash-cure-20

To be funded with Hackspace funding with pledges where required.

The D7 has suited the Hackspaces needs for the past few years however the printer has experienced issues with print quality in recent months and more innovative and higher quality alternatives are now available on the consumer market, as such the 3D printing maintenance team have reviewed currently available products and beleive this may be the current best alternative. The printer can operate at over twice the speed of the D7 (80mm/h v 35mm/h). The printer also boasts a better screen at 4K compared to the 1/2k screen of our existing printer. (depending on the version of the D7 purchased). The official resin for this printer is around £20 cheaper than the current resins we use which represents an ongoing saving over the existing printer. With maintenance on the D7 due to the way it's build replacing consumables like the LCD screen have a tendancy to actually break the printer as a whole. The sonic mini allows for easy repairs and disassembly of the unit making maintenance easy. Compared to our existing printer the monochrome LCD allows up to 4x longer screen lifetime further reducing ongoing costs. This would benefit our members by allowing them to complete prints faster without having to sacrafice quality as with the existing printer and will be a great investment into SLA printing since FDM has received so much investment recently.

The proposed purchase is for 1 Mini 4K and a bottle of its own brand resin along with an Anycubic Wash and cure system, no further resources or work will be needed that won't be undertaken as general work for the 3d printer management team as formed by Dan R.

This printer, if used with its own branded resin, produces less odors however as usual, gloves will be needed when utilising the printer. The purchasing of an actual wash and cure system will allow for better finishing of 3d prints compared to our current small plastic vat and bodged together curing system. Following this proposal, a 2 week discussion will be undertaken which will complete on the 9th of December to allow us to use the next printer at the beginning of the new year.
