Title

Multifilament Printing - Bambu P1P AMS

Proposer

Dan Robertson and 3D room team

Date proposed

07/11/2023

Date for Decision

21/11/2023

Cost

£858 at time of proposal (1078 without offers) Filament £22.99 each

What is being asked for

Proposal is for the purchase of a P1P with the Automatic Material System upgrade. This will allow the printer to complete multicolour prints. No upgrades are needed to fit the AMS and the printer comes with automatic bed levelling as a default so no upgrades are needed for this either.

Why/how this will be good to have

Should we wish for more than 4 colour prints this can be discussed in the future as up to 4 AMS units can be used together.

This printer may incur further costs for consumables as items like nozzle wipers and air filters are required, along with the hotends being proprietary, this, however is offset as the prices are incredibly low.

This printer is largely automated and as such, minimal setup will be needed meaning this printer is unlikely to experience major downtime at any point, unlike the Enders. The downside for the AMS is that, for full tracking functionality, the filaments are also proprietary however are the same price as others on the market and are not a complete requirement.

One potential use case for the AMS is the use of a PVA filament for water soluble supports allowing for more complex geometries to be printed without damage when removing supports

This printer will: - Increase the usability of our 3D printing suite - Reduce likelihood of major printer downtimes and limitation arising from this -Reduce overall requirements for training on use for this printer -Reduce likelihood of SD card loss, files can be sent to it via LAN directly.
