Chat page about locking down viewership of this wiki
This is a total test
Is it possible to chat on a wiki, like you could with a google doc? Lets see..
Lets try: you put your name/identifier as a title, then which 'round' (like steps in a conversation). So I did Round 1, the next person would do round 2, and then i'd reply by editing my text (entirely?) and having round 3. The idea is not to leave old text (like slack) but to update everybody's CURRENT opinion, leaving on relevant information that was used to make the decision.
For example, I say "i want us to make cake on mondays" and put a link to a study that suggests eating cake weekly is beneficial to happiness.
Person 2 says "no, because cake will collect dust from the lasercutter"
I put 'round 3' and change my text to "I thought i'd be nice to have cake, but it's not a good idea at the space, because of the dust", and keep the link. FOR EXAMPLE
NW
ROUND 1
I would (quite strongly) prefer that this wiki was viewable only to HS (slack) members.
It seems like we have options, and this page details some.
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['read'] = true; // But logged in users can read 1:08 https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Topic:Tbhdjg3645amtv8n 1:09 SOUNDS LIKE that's a global variable, which makes the whole wiki unreadable unless logged in?!? Seems like the extention "lockdown" has more control, but is still a bit shaky...? Global 'log in to view' would be good with me. Certainly at first, as a trial starting point...?
Why do I think this?
Because us being able to put semi-anonymous information on here, which is relevant to our space and our machines... is more beneficial to us than helping out totally random weirdos on the internet. Which is nice to do, but * just becasue you can * doesn't mean you should. In-house is just quicker, faster, more lovely and better. Lock it down! we can change our mind later.
