Why/how this will be good to have
The requested modifications to the CR10 would do multiple things. Firstly, it would allow us to review our policies on exotic materials through the use of the Revo Obsidian nozzle which is highly wear-resistant. Secondly, the direct drive method would allow us to print in flexible material such as TPU where we currently experience issues with the Bowden tube method, finally, adding a BL touch would allow automatic bed leveling over the currently manual process which will increase the ability to use the printer without the consistent need to relevel manually.
This would be a benefit for all members who utilise the 3D printing room as the nozzles used in the Revo Hermara kit are easily changeable without the need for tools meaning users can quickly change to more effective nozzles for their required usage case.
This change would solely depend on the 3D printing team however there is now knowledge on how to quickly make these changes so this would not take as long as the repairs to the Ender 3.
Following this, if approved, a full review would be undertaken to agree rules on materials used such as wood and copper filaments or even carbon fiber filaments which can cause wear which would then be possible with this upgrade.
