<span style="color:red">DRAFT</span> Hackspace Proposals <span style="color:red">DRAFT</span>
*N.B. If you have paid for goods or services on behalf of the Hackspace, send a PDF of the receipt (and guarantee) to the Admin team. You can claim the money by asking Marion or the admin team.<br>
<br>
If you need help making a proposal: ask the Lead of the area (if appropriate), Admin Team, core member or another member

Aims and Objectives
Hackspace proposals are a method to put forward ideas that would impact on the Hackspace and its members - e.g. purchases, team projects, additional tools and equipment, furnishing the space.

Proposals should include:
* Name of proposer
* Date proposed
* Title of proposal
* Cost including delivery and on going costs,consumables etc
* A budget if applicable and how funded (e.g. Hackspace, pledge, grant, self funded )
* Explain what your proposal is about (your chance to sell the story)
* Why and how this would be good for the Hackspace/who would benefit
* State what they depend on in terms of resources and who will undertake any work needed
* Any other implications or impacts such as fumes, safety, space, expertise needed to set-up and maintain
* State what they depend on in terms of resources and who will undertake any work needed

Types of proposal
(to be discussed at special meeting 13 October 2020)

General decisions

- Day-to-day hackspace decision eg something that affects members but is minor in nature : Proposer plus member of Admin Team to approve. Lead maintainer should be consulted if possible

- General hackspace decision eg something that affects all members: Requires Wiki proposal (see below) and general member agreement with at least a week timescale and no significant objections. Lead maintainer should be consulted if possible

- Major hackspace decision eg something that affects all members and is significant in impact eg policies, moves, major changes: Requires Wiki proposal (see below) General membership consulted. Core Team makes the decision. Timescale appropriate to issue

Purchasing decisions

- H&S or proposal under £50 eg consumables or general supplies : Proposer plus member of Admin Team to approve

- Small purchase: total cost up to £100. Requires Wiki proposal (see below and general member agreement with at least a week timescale and no significant objection. Lead maintainer or core team member to be consulted if possible

- Medium purchase: total cost £100-£500. Requires Wiki proposal (see below) discussion and at least two weeks timescale or until 10 members agree and no significant objection. Lead maintainer or core team member to be consulted

- Large purchase: total cost >£600. Requires Wiki proposal discussion and at least two weeks timescale or until 10 members agree and no significant objection. Lead maintainer or core team member to be consulted

- Emergency decision : a quick decision can be made by proposer and Admin Team if a proposal has been agreed in principle and an item has become available eg Gumtree purchase that would be missed otherwise. Lead maintainer input if possible in time-frame

In the case of dispute or indecision, the Core Team have final say (at least 5 members) and may call a meeting if necessary

Principles of decision-making
•	Decisions to be made in #decision-making channel in Slack and raised and recorded in the Wiki (extended discussion in appropriate channel)

•	Any member can join #decision-making but those that choose not to effectively leave Hackspace decisions to those that do. It is possible to join and leave the channel depending on interest or capacity at the time.

•	All members have the chance to contribute or comment within the time-scale

•	Enough time to comment. Interested members should check in to #decision-making at least once a week

•	A strong (reasoned) objection can carry more weight than several average agreements and vice versa

•	The deadline provides the end point - a member of the Admin team will summerise and define actions from then on

•	Core members and Lead Maintainers have final say in case of dispute or indecision

How to make a proposal
- Write up the proposal on this Wiki. Confused as to how? Then follow this step by step tutorial!
- Post to #decision-making on Slack.
- Post a wiki link to your proposal on Slack
- If your proposal is approved, proceed with the purchase or follow actions as agreed.

Funding
Proposals requiring funds.

Dependent on the scope and remit of certain proposals it may be appropriate for full or partial funding by Hackspace. Proposals should include an estimated budget ie money and/or other resources (backed by quotations, etc where appropriate) and a funding model.

Funding models may include:
* fully funded by Hackspace
* Pledge funded with partial split between Hackspace and supportive member backing
* fully member supported
Multifilament Printing - Bambu P1P AMS

Date proposed
07/11/2023

Date for Decision
21/11/2023
Cost
£858 at time of proposal (1078 without offers)
Filament £22.99 each

What is being asked for
Proposal is for the purchase of a P1P with the Automatic Material System upgrade. This will allow the printer to complete multicolour prints. No upgrades are needed to fit the AMS and the printer comes with automatic bed levelling as a default so no upgrades are needed for this either.

Why/how this will be good to have
Should we wish for more than 4 colour prints this can be discussed in the future as up to 4 AMS units can be used together.

This printer may incur further costs for consumables as items like nozzle wipers and air filters are required, along with the hotends being proprietary, this, however is offset as the prices are incredibly low.

This printer is largely automated and as such, minimal setup will be needed meaning this printer is unlikely to experience major downtime at any point, unlike the Enders. The downside for the AMS is that, for full tracking functionality, the filaments are also proprietary however are the same price as others on the market and are not a complete requirement.

One potential use case for the AMS is the use of a PVA filament for water soluble supports allowing for more complex geometries to be printed without damage when removing supports

This printer will:
- Increase the usability of our 3D printing suite
- Reduce likelihood of major printer downtimes and limitation arising from this
-Reduce overall requirements for training on use for this printer
-Reduce likelihood of SD card loss, files can be sent to it via LAN directly.
TOTAL:324.52

Why/how this will be good to have
The requested modifications to the CR10 would do multiple things. Firstly, it would allow us to review our policies on exotic materials through the use of the Revo Obsidian nozzle which is highly wear-resistant. Secondly, the direct drive method would allow us to print in flexible material such as TPU where we currently experience issues with the Bowden tube method, finally, adding a BL touch would allow automatic bed leveling over the currently manual process which will increase the ability to use the printer without the consistent need to relevel manually.

This would be a benefit for all members who utilise the 3D printing room as the nozzles used in the Revo Hermara kit are easily changeable without the need for tools meaning users can quickly change to more effective nozzles for their required usage case.

This change would solely depend on the 3D printing team however there is now knowledge on how to quickly make these changes so this would not take as long as the repairs to the Ender 3.

Following this, if approved, a full review would be undertaken to agree rules on materials used such as wood and copper filaments or even carbon fiber filaments which can cause wear which would then be possible with this upgrade.
<span style="color:red">DRAFT</span> Hackspace Proposals <span style="color:red">DRAFT</span>
*N.B. If you have paid for goods or services on behalf of the Hackspace, send a PDF of the receipt (and guarantee) to the Admin team. You can claim the money by asking Marion or the admin team.<br>
<br>

* Name of proposer
* Date proposed
* Title of proposal

* fully funded by Hackspace
* Pledge funded with partial split between Hackspace and supportive member backing
* fully member supported

*N.B. If you have paid for goods or services on behalf of the Hackspace, send a PDF of the receipt (and guarantee) to the Admin team. You can claim the money by asking Marion or the admin team.<br>
<br>

* Name of proposer
* Date proposed
* Title of proposal

* fully funded by Hackspace
* Pledge funded with partial split between Hackspace and supportive member backing
* fully member supported

Proposal by Dan R and the 3D printer maintainance team

Proposed 25/11/2020

Replacement of the Wanhao D7 with a Phrozen Mini 4K and replacement of the small nail bar with a proper wash and cure system

Initial Cost: £500 approx inc shipping
https://www.3djake.uk/phrozen/sonic-mini-4k
https://www.3djake.uk/anycubic-3d-printer-and-accessories/wash-cure-20

To be funded with Hackspace funding with pledges where required.

The D7 has suited the Hackspaces needs for the past few years however the printer has experienced issues with print quality in recent months and more innovative and higher quality alternatives are now available on the consumer market, as such the 3D printing maintenance team have reviewed currently available products and beleive this may be the current best alternative. The printer can operate at over twice the speed of the D7 (80mm/h v 35mm/h). The printer also boasts a better screen at 4K compared to the 1/2k screen of our existing printer. (depending on the version of the D7 purchased). The official resin for this printer is around £20 cheaper than the current resins we use which represents an ongoing saving over the existing printer. With maintenance on the D7 due to the way it's build replacing consumables like the LCD screen have a tendancy to actually break the printer as a whole. The sonic mini allows for easy repairs and disassembly of the unit making maintenance easy. Compared to our existing printer the monochrome LCD allows up to 4x longer screen lifetime further reducing ongoing costs.
This would benefit our members by allowing them to complete prints faster without having to sacrafice quality as with the existing printer and will be a great investment into SLA printing since FDM has received so much investment recently.

The proposed purchase is for 1 Mini 4K and a bottle of its own brand resin along with an Anycubic Wash and cure system, no further resources or work will be needed that won't be undertaken as general work for the 3d printer management team as formed by Dan R.

This printer, if used with its own branded resin, produces less odors however as usual, gloves will be needed when utilising the printer.
The purchasing of an actual wash and cure system will allow for better finishing of 3d prints compared to our current small plastic vat and bodged together curing system.
Following this proposal, a 2 week discussion will be undertaken which will complete on the 9th of December to allow us to use the next printer at the beginning of the new year.

* fully funded by Hackspace
* Pledge funded with partial split between Hackspace and supportive member backing
* fully member supported
Really, the settings on the cutter change often enough that it's always best to re-test your material.

The power goes from 15-100, and speed is mm/second. Below 15 either the "laser doesn't fire", or its effects are not perceptible. (I will add a photo of that test thing I did)

If you're trying to cut through something, just put power at maximum and adjust the speed.

20mm/s is a moderate speed. 10 is on the slow end and 5 is irritatingly slow. With paper or card, you can easily go at 100mm/s and over, but you have to remember that the head of the lasercutter has to speed up and slow down. This is "corner power" and is a noticeably robust system.

With plywood, you'll find that some tiny areas do not cut. In fact they seem heat-proof. You might need to re-cut them many times. In the lasercutter software you can cut a spline/line, and then isolate just the areas of the drawing you want to re-cut, saving tons of time. Those areas will likely look (and smell!) very burned, which might be a problem if you're trying to do something beautiful.
Aims and Objectives
Hackspace proposals are a method to put forward ideas that would impact on the Hackspace and its members - e.g. purchases, team projects, additional tools and equipment, furnishing the space.

Proposals should include:
* Name of proposer
* Date proposed
* Title of proposal
* Cost including delivery and on going costs,consumables etc
A budget if applicable and how funded (e.g. Hackspace, pledge, grant, self funded )
* Explain what is about (your chance to sell the story)
* Why and how this would be good for the Hackspace/who would benefit
* State what they depend on in terms of resources and who will undertake any work needed
* Any other implications or impacts such as fumes, safety, space, expertise needed to set-up and maintain
* State what they depend on in terms of resources and who will undertake any work needed

Types of proposal
(as discussed at special meeting 13 October 2020)
- H&S or proposal under £50 : proposer sends slack message to #decision making (no wiki proposal), need approval from ??
- Small purchase: total cost <£???, requires wiki proposal (see below) and ? members' +
- Medium purchase: total cost £???-£???600, requires wiki proposal (see below) and ? members' and core team approval
- Large purchase: total cost >£600, requires the core team approval

Title
Redecoration

Proposer
Daniel Robertson

Date proposed
29/09/2020

Date for Decision
Initial decision to be made by 26th of October 2020

Cost
Up to £500 depending on option chosen

What is being asked for
What: I am proposing that we look to redecorate the 3 main ‘clean’ rooms to revamp the hackspace slightly.
Why: The general decoration of the hackspace has not been maintained over the years the space has been located at Lion House and as such there are some issues cropping up such as a large water damage patch in the 3D printing room. As we are revamping the management of the hackspace to the ‘Hackspace 2.0’ model, it would be a good time to also refresh the interior of the hackspace
When: I suggest we look to get this done during lockdown whilst usage of the space is low to minimise disruption to space members
How: We have two options available to us, we can either hire an external decorator for which quotes will be provided shortly or we can arrange a team to redecorate the space. Both options have positives and negatives detailed below.
Source of Funding: As this project is to redecorate the hackspace and is mainly for maintenance purposes, I would suggest the majority of the funding for this project comes from the hackspace.
Option 1: Hiring an external decorator
Positives: Quality of work will be higher, time span of disruption to the hackspace will be lower, guarantee that the Hacker’s Plague (unfinished projects) will not occur
Negatives: Higher cost due to needing to pay for labour, security issue of allowing a non-member access to the space for duration
Option 2: Internal Labour
Positives: Reduced cost as only paint is required for purchase, no security issues,
Negatives: Due to current restrictions only 6 people can be in the space at any time which may add delays, reduced quality of work, more disruption to members looking to generally use the space during decoration period.

Who is for it
This proposal is for the general space for maintenance purposes and to attract more potential members when tours resume post Covid-19

Who is against it and why
Outcome
